The history of the “Dissy.”

The Dissipator rifle was developed for use by the U.S. Military in the early 1960s.

Original designs were created simply by sawing existing 20-inch rifles down to 16-inch.

The Dissipator’s shorter barrel allowed for a reduction in overall weight along with also increased maneuverability making it more suitable for use in close-quarters combat.

The rifle-length gas system also ofered greater reliability and accuracy than a shorter carbine-length gas system.

Although the Dissipator rifle fell out of favor with the military in the late 1960s, it has experienced a revival in popularity among civilian shooters in recent years—mostly due to its unique appearance, distinct features and nod to 20th Century wartime nostalgia.
